How to make TGIF really work

Everybody looks forward to Friday with a big sigh of relief. Thank goodness that work week is done. I’m all about having gratitude but there’s a better way to use your energy on Friday. Shift into a more positive and proactive space.

Here are 3 simple tips to make Friday really work for you:

Celebrate your accomplishments

When most people get to the end of the week, they focus on what’s still left to do on their to-do lists. That can leave you with a real sense of dissatisfaction. By some estimates, the average person has at least 50 hours of uncompleted tasks in the workplace. That’s more than a whole work week of stuff to finish. Instead of looking at what’s undone, take a few minutes on Friday to remind yourself of everything you did get done during the week. Pat yourself on the back and leave the office feeling satisfied rather than discouraged.

Plan your weekend renewal

If your weekend is as jammed up as your work week, it doesn’t leave much room for re-energizing yourself. Sure there are lots of household chores and family obligations that need your attention. You also have to carve out a little time and space for renewing yourself. Make a commitment on Friday to what you will do on the weekend that’s good for your heart, body or mind. Give yourself at least an hour to relax or have some fun.

Set your Monday up for success

Before you leave the office on Friday, take a few minutes to arrange things so Monday morning works with you and not against you. Clean off your desk. There’s nothing worse than coming back to Friday’s leftovers. At the least, tidy it up and create some order to the piles. Then leave an inspirational quote or photo on your computer. That can help set the tone for the coming week.

By creating a TGIF routine that focuses on positive success strategies, Friday becomes a real day to celebrate.
