My dad was a big John Wayne fan.
Maybe it was that classic cowboy image that was appealing. Perhaps he liked that most of the characters the Duke played were slightly flawed human beings with a pioneering spirit, tough guys with a soft spot if you looked for it. Or maybe he just liked idea of galloping off into the sunset.
While there may be many iconic cowboy quotes from John Wayne movies and other westerns, it something that he said in real life that offers a bit of real wisdom:
“Tomorrow comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and puts itself in our hands.”
That is a great reminder for all of us that tomorrow is always a fresh start.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what today may have brought to us, or what we might have done with it. By midnight our choices for today are finished.
But the new day brings a clean slate – an opportunity to make different choices.
There is the real gift in each day – moment to moment consciously and intentionally choosing what you want to create – regardless of the choices you made yesterday.
So saddle up – use what’s left of today and then embrace the perfect day coming tomorrow.
