There’s always something to do in the garden – weeding, watering, planting. The garden is a busy place especially in the summer. It’s easy for it to become just another chore that needs taking care of. Something that gets added to your ever growing to-do list. That’s why it’s important to spend as much time enjoying the garden as you do working in it.
A few days ago I was reminded of the importance of just being in the garden. I had a moment of pure bliss looking up at the brilliant blue sky, surrounded by the blooming flowers and the serenade of the song birds. In that quiet moment of being, it was so clear that life is perfect. Even when things are not quite going the way we want them to, life is perfect.
In our very hectic lives we can become so focused on everything we have to do that we rarely take the time to simply be. There’s never enough time get everything done. We are too busy for some fluffy notion of being in the moment. Our thoughts are preoccupied by what has happened in the past or what is still left to do in the future. We rarely have our conscious attention on the here and now.
Are you so busy doing that you don’t have time to just be?
Do you spend most of your time thinking about the past or planning for the future?
Does time seem in short supply?
Just like in the garden, there will always be something else on your to-do list. That’s why you can’t wait for everything to be checked off the list before you take the time to enjoy the moment. It’s in those moments when we are truly present that we connect with the richness of life. We become mindful of what is truly important. We re-inhabit our bodies and fully experience our senses.
Mindfulness brings you back to the present moment. It reorients you to what is important. Creating a balance between being and doing allows you to have more purposeful action in your life. Stop for a moment right now and just be. Practising being mindful leads to a more perfect existence.
