You’ve probably heard that old saying:
How do you eat an elephant…..one bite at a time.
That’s really the best advice for decluttering your life too.
Simply tackle it one chunk at a time.
Depending on the state of clutter in your life, the prospect of simplifying everything from relationships to your bedroom closet can seem somewhat daunting. Like most things in life, it doesn’t have to be any more complicated that you would like to make it.
It’s not really the size of the task at hand that gets in your way. It’s getting unstuck enough to begin to create a little momentum. That old “a body at rest tends to stay at rest” principle. But if you can get a little traction, things start to move forward.
Taking on one small aspect of decluttering frees up both space and energy to do the next bit. So here’s your challenge for this week:
Pick one drawer to purge, sort and reorganize. Just one drawer. Maybe it’s that catchall junk drawer in the kitchen. Maybe it’s a drawer of bathroom stuff. How about a desk drawer or one in your dresser? Doesn’t matter. Just pick one drawer and do it.
When you are done, notice the sense of satisfaction and possibility that you feel. That might give you the boost you need to take on the next small chunk of decluttering.
In the end, the clutter in your life is the elephant in the room. It’s impacting you whether you want to think about it or not. So take a bite and get started.
Feel free to post a comment about the drawer you are eating this week.
